Windows xp extremely slow boot
Run a full scan. It is not real-time, so will not interfere with McAfee. Between McAfee and this, I'd be reasonably confident you are not infected assuming you pass! It will then give you the time for each service, applet, etc.
It knows not to even offer you a choice on critical OS requirements and services as well. And it's easy to undo any changes later it even undoes them itself if you uninstall it. With almost everything unchecked with msconfig services and startup most everything is in manual mode. They should not be updating with a reboot.
If there are background programs that I do not know about or do not know how to alter. Is there a way to find these? Is there anything that can be gleaned from viewing windows task manager processes, performance etc? AOL is a hog and it does not open automatically. Only manual.
Again it may be one of thos that runs secretly in the background??? I do not know if I have an AV program to always download and install an update. How do I check? How do you uninstall all of the tool bars? Are they all found viewing in add remove programs or is there some other method? I just want to be able to google search otherwise I do not need any toolbars. Suggestion: this is not good and can be contributing to your issue.
Suggestion: Soluto Is there anything that can be gleaned from viewing windows task manager processes, performance etc? Suggestion: yes Suggestion: 1 Indexing happens mainly once and done updates are quick. You may just want to let it go, unless it's been more than a day. Suggestion: this is not likely your problem, but to find out you need to check the settings in your AV program itself.

Have you got any restore points? Do you get the same issue if you start Windows in safe mode? Did you check the system event logs already? Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes. Improve this answer. Based on my experience you have to check system setting on your Windows.
I have SP3. But anyway, that's the plan for now. You know your system and how it has operated. Questions: Have you installed any new software" Have you checked your startup programs to see if anyone is causing this slowdown. Have you run malware and spyware utilities. Here is a workaround for your SP3 if you don't have a disk with SP3 on it. No change, put back the present image.
If it works better, well, you could get updated files from the new image you just made. You could get SOLUTO and install it and see the boot times for the various applications and services that get started. Might help find one that take a long time. This really sounds like swapping is happening, but you didn't say how much RAM you have?
Is what you have all being used? Look at the Task Manager Performance tab for that info. I just did a wipe and restore via Acronis. No change I suspect that there is a problem in the Windows OS itself.
I don't know anything about "swapping" thing. I may get again and try once more. Browse Community. Turn on suggestions.
