Open My Computer and navigate to this folder to see if the msgina. In reply to A. User's post on March 9, ElderL, have exact problem.
Can I post here for your reply or should I start new thread? In reply to KenYR's post on November 22, If you need to know how to make a booable CD or USB thumb drive to do all this, just say which you prefer. All these details and if you have some feedback will help me update my notes with easier to follow instructions!
If anybody says you need to add msgina. If your system has been afflicted with malicious software, or sometimes installing and uninstalling some third party applications, they may have adjusted your registry telling XP to try to load a different GINA.
If for some reason that particular GINA. It will of course not even try to load the default msgina. Foiled again. You fooled it. Then you system will boot and you can edit the registry and remove the GinaDLL entry from the Winlogon section since it probably doesn't belong there anymore. Before making any changes to your registry by hand or with third party tools, be sure to create a manual System Restore point and make a backup of the registry first and manually just in case.
There is no undo or quit without saving option in regedit. Do you have a genuine bootable XP installation CD? This is not the same as any Recovery CDs that may have come with your system. If you don't, you can make one no XP media required. User's post on November 22, Contact your system administrator to replace DLL or restore original dll. Rebooted and things seemed to return to normal. Noticed windows update shield in taskbar. No problem right, exit all programs click on shield to install.
System hang before I could start installation. Removed all connected devices except display wireless mouse and keyboard, HP printer and since the update was already downloaded removed DSL connection. Noticed something unusual about update, it was MSE definition which usually updates automatically. System began running normally. So over last couple of days I reconnected the DSL and the wireless keyboard and mouse.
No problems. Ran fsutil dirty query c: c: not dirty. Things I have tried: boot into safe mode, last known good configuration, and safe mode with command prompt resulting with this same single error.
In reply to KenYR's post on November 23, If you got the message after connecting the HP printer, you tried booting with it disconnected, right? What is the model of the HP printer? I don't think that copying msgina to csgina is it and that was only on a system with some Cisco VPN software was uninstalled and did not properly clean up after itself that's not you, is it?
It will not hurt though and you can remove the file later if it bothers you to see it. Last Know Good Configuration loads a copy of your system registry that was saved the last time your system booted and was shutdown successfully. When you shutdown properly and see that message about "Saving your settings So I think that would work if it was a registry problem.
Since the msgina. If there are no other problems, XP doesn't even really need the dllcache folder to boot but will need that folder if Windows File Protection needs to replace a monitored file that might come up missing once XP gets running.
