I'm not sure how old the KLN89b is, so that may not be that applicable. I've seen some Youtube videos that show the DB being updated by pulling the entire GPS out of the aircraft, installing it in a purpose build "docking station" that costs a few hundred bucks and then running some software on an XP-era PC.

There is also software there. One has to change its firmware, which requires a connection to a computer running windoze 98 no kidding. I have 2 of them, working on different PCs, and keep them both going because they are a bit fussy about the PC You must log in or sign up to reply here.

Does anyone else have a KLN89B that they are keeping the database updated? We have a Jep account available to update the database in our plane, but no method to do so. I'm thinking you need a proprietary cable which we don't have which connects to a connector which has to be installed and interfaced to the KLN89B.

I'm not sure if the connector has been installed in the plane. Our LG guy does ours every month Neither has been able to help. It's a proprietary cable, and I'm told it's the same for the KLN90's.

We've been keeping the cable in the KLN89 airplanes so whenever the aircraft transfers to another squadron it can continue to be updated. I appreciate it. It's possible the cable may be somewhere. The plane was transferred from another squadron. I'm not entirely sure the GPS installation includes the connector to accept the cable. I'll have to look for it the next time I'm in the plane. Where is the connector located in your plane s?
